There is a language woven into the cards — ancient, precise, and deeply personal. And it begins with the Suits.
In Cardology, the four suits — Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, and Spades — are more than categories. They are energies. They are the living threads of who you are, how you move through the world, and what you carry within you. And beyond the suit of your birth card, you have a combination of suits within your entire Life Path spread.
This post is the beginning of a series — one that will take you through each suit, one by one, so you can understand not just the cards, but yourself.
We start where it makes the most sense: with the suit of your birth card. The energy you were born into. The one that has always been a part of you, whether you recognized it or not.
Because here’s what I’ve come to know through years of teaching and living this work — when we truly understand the energy we hold, something shifts. We stop moving against ourselves. We start coming home to who we really are.
That is the intention of this series. To help you reclaim your authentic self — one suit at a time.
Before we dive in, let me ask you something –
Have you ever met someone and within about three minutes thought: this person feels everything so deeply — how do they function? Or met someone who cannot stop asking questions, who needs to understand the “why” behind absolutely everything? Or someone who walked into a room and immediately started rearranging it, making it better, building something out of nothing?
And have you ever wondered why some people move through life on pure feeling, while others move through pure logic, while others just… do?
That’s not personality. That’s not upbringing. That’s your suit.
In Cardology, the ancient wisdom system hidden inside a regular deck of playing cards, every person belongs to one of four suits. And here’s what I’ve noticed after years of doing this work: when I tell someone which suit they are, they almost never look surprised.
They look relieved.
Like they’ve just been handed the word for something they’ve always known but could never quite explain.
Let’s find your word. Or confirm the one you already suspect.
–>A tip: As you are reading about the suit of your birth card – remember this – you have an entire Life Path spread (16 cards total) that speak to who you are. We are focusing on the suit of your birth card– the card that is the essence of you. You have layers and aspects of what makes you, you.
First — what is a suit, really?
In Cardology, the four suits aren’t just categories. They’re energies. They’re the fundamental way you process life — in the same way that we have an emotional body, a mental body, a physical body and a spirit – the suits speak to these aspects of you. And they relate to the four elements.
Think of it like this: if life is a river, some people feel their way downstream. Some think their way. Some build a boat and set sail. And some have already mapped every bend in the river before they ever got near the water.
None of these is better than the others. But they are very, very different. And when you know which one is yours, so many things about yourself start to make sense.
The four suits are Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, and Spades. Each one connects to an element and a core theme. Let’s meet them.
♥ Hearts · Water · Emotions
You feel before you think. And that’s not a problem — it’s your superpower.
Hearts people live in the world of feeling. Not in a dramatic, overwrought way — though that can happen too! — but in the sense that emotion is your primary language. It’s how you take in information, how you make decisions, how you know if something is right or wrong for you.
You’ve probably been told you’re “too sensitive” at some point. You pick up on things other people miss — the shift in someone’s energy when they say they’re fine but clearly aren’t. The undercurrent in a room. The thing nobody is saying out loud.
You might’ve wondered why you can’t just shake things off the way other people seem to. Why you need time to process. Why a harsh word from someone you love can derail your whole day, when the same person would brush it off in minutes.
It’s because your nervous system is tuned to a frequency most people can’t even hear. That’s not weakness. That’s extraordinary range.
Hearts people tend to be the ones everyone calls when something goes wrong. You know how to hold space. You know how to love people through hard things. Relationships are not just important to you — they are the architecture of your life.
Your element is Water. And Water doesn’t fight. It flows. It finds a way around every obstacle. It’s the softest thing in the world and the most powerful.
You might be a Hearts person if…
- You’ve ever cried at a commercial — and felt a little embarrassed about it
- Your gut feeling about people is almost always right, even when your head argues back
- You need to know how people are feeling before you can relax in a room
- You find it easier to forgive others than to forgive yourself
- Relationships are where you do your deepest growing — and your deepest learning
–>Hearts, ask yourself: Am I honoring how I feel, or am I apologizing for it?
♣ Clubs · Air · Knowledge
Your mind never stops. And you wouldn’t want it to.
Clubs people live in the world of ideas. You are endlessly curious. You need to understand how things work, why people behave the way they do, what’s really going on beneath the surface. You love to learn. You love to discuss. You love a good, meaty conversation where something actually gets figured out.
You probably have seventeen browser tabs open right now. You’ve started more books than you’ve finished, not because you lose interest, but because a new idea beckoned and you had to follow it. Your brain makes connections that other people can’t quite keep up with, and you’ve probably learned to slow down your explanations because you’re always three steps ahead.
You may have been called a know-it-all at some point. You weren’t trying to dominate — you were just genuinely excited. There’s a difference. Clubs people aren’t arrogant; they’re alive with curiosity, and that can look like a lot to people who aren’t wired the same way.
The Clubs suit is Air. And Air is everywhere. It connects everything. Ideas travel on it, words move through it, truth spreads because of it.
Knowledge isn’t just something Clubs people accumulate. It’s how they feel safe. When you understand something, you can work with it. The unknown is uncomfortable for you not because you’re fearful, but because you prefer to be equipped.
And when a Clubs person puts their understanding into action? When all that mental firepower gets a direction? They are unstoppable. Teachers, writers, communicators, researchers, strategists — this suit has the most birthdays within the year.

You might be a Clubs person if…
- You can’t stop asking “why” — even when everyone else has moved on
- You find small talk painful but could talk for three hours about something that actually interests you
- You research things obsessively before making a decision
- You’ve had people tell you “you’re overthinking it” more times than you can count
- Learning something new gives you a physical sense of pleasure
–>Clubs, ask yourself: Am I using my knowledge to build something, or am I collecting it to feel ready?
♦ Diamonds · Fire · Building
You came here to make things real. Ideas are nice. Results are better.
Diamonds people are the builders of the deck. You have an innate understanding of value — not just money, though that matters to you and you’re not apologizing for it — but real, tangible value. What something is worth. What something costs. What something produces.
You are not content to leave a good idea as just an idea. You want to make it real. You want to see it take shape. You want to hold it in your hands or point to it and say: I made that. That exists because I put energy into it.
You’re probably the most practical person in your friend group. When someone comes to you with a problem, your first instinct isn’t to empathize — it’s to solve it. You mean well. You’re trying to help. But you’ve probably had someone say to you: I don’t need a solution right now, I just need you to listen. (Hearts people. It’s almost always Hearts people.)
Diamonds are Fire. And Fire doesn’t wait. It ignites. It moves. It transforms everything it touches into energy.
Diamonds people are often wildly creative — but their creativity is grounded. It’s purposeful. They’re not creating just for expression. They’re creating because something needs to exist that didn’t exist before.
The shadow side? Diamonds can burn hot. You can push too hard, build too fast, measure your worth by what you produce rather than who you are. The invitation of this suit is learning that you are valuable even when you’re not making anything.

You might be a Diamonds person if…
- You have a running to-do list for things you want to create, launch, or build
- Inefficiency drives you quietly mad
- You set goals and you hit them — or you want to know exactly why you didn’t
- You understand money intuitively — how it flows, how to grow it, what it represents
- You feel most alive when you’re in the middle of building something
–>Diamonds, ask yourself: Am I building things that truly matter to me, or just building because standing still feels wrong?
♠ Spades · Earth · Wisdom
You’ve always known more than you let on.
Spades people carry something the other suits are still working toward: the deep, quiet certainty that comes from having lived through things and emerged knowing something real.
You are not easily shaken. You’ve been through enough to understand that most things pass, most crises resolve, and most of what people call catastrophic isn’t. You have perspective in a way that other people genuinely envy, even if they don’t know how to say it.
You’re also probably the most misunderstood suit. Spades has a reputation — the “dark” suit, the difficult one, the one associated with endings and hard truths. And yes, Spades knows about hard truths. But the reason Spades can hold hard truths is because they’ve already made peace with them. That’s not darkness. That’s depth.
Spades is Earth. And Earth holds everything. It is the ground beneath every other element. Water flows through it. Air moves across it. Fire burns on it. Nothing exists without it.
Spades people are often the quiet ones in the room who say one thing, and the whole room goes still, because what they said was exactly right. You don’t speak to fill space. When you speak, it means something.
Your challenge is letting people in. Earth can become stone if it’s never watered. Your wisdom is extraordinary, but it’s meant to be shared — not kept safe inside where it can’t be touched.

You might be a Spades person if…
- You have a very low tolerance for pretension or performance — you can spot it instantly
- People come to you for advice, and they take it, because somehow you always see clearly
- You’ve been through things that would break others, and something in you just… kept going
- You prefer honesty to comfort, even when honesty is harder
- You feel a deep sense of responsibility — to your work, your word, the people you love
–>Spades, ask yourself: Am I allowing my wisdom to be a gift to others, or am I protecting it by keeping it alone?
So which one are you?
I’ll be honest: most people know as soon as they read the descriptions. Something tugs. Something says “yes, that’s me.”
And some people feel a pull toward two suits, which makes total sense. You have a whole spread of cards around your birth card, not just one (and one of those is your Ruling card)— so other suit energies absolutely live in you. But there’s usually one that feels like home. One that describes the way you move through the world when no one’s watching and you’re not trying to be anyone in particular.
That’s your suit.
You didn’t choose it. It was given to you. And it has been shaping your life, your relationships, your gifts, and your challenges from the moment you arrived.
The moment you know your suit, you can start working with it instead of against it. You can stop seeing your sensitivity as a liability (Hearts). Stop apologizing for how much you need to understand (Clubs). Stop feeling guilty for being driven (Diamonds). Stop hiding your depth (Spades).
You can start being exactly who you came here to be.
