Create/treat yourself to a sensual experience. Some ideas:
Water
Enjoy a bath. Play with the temperature, scent, and texture of the water. Add salts to feel them rub against your skin, or oils for a sheen.
Go swimming. In the ocean, a lake, a pond, a pool…whatever is a delight for you. Enjoy the movement of your body in water, the way it floats, the way your limbs feel, the way it surrounds your head and hair.
If it’s winter and snowy where you are, go play in it! Make snow angels. Feel it against bare skin. Catch flakes on your tongue. Build a snow man or bench or mermaid and enjoy your creative efforts!
Eat snow cones or take a day to drink lots of water to refresh yourself. You can also make some spa water with cucumbers, herbs and/or fruit! Notice the pleasure of hydration.
Earth
Go on a hike. Notice the terrain changes and the way your footfalls are met by the ground below you. Notice the energy of moving your body and taste the smell of environment around you.
Hug a tree! Play in the mud! Build a sandcastle!
Sit and meditate in a park or by a tree or on a log. Thank the Earth underneath you.
Lay in the grass and read a book, or draw, or journal, or whatever makes you happy. Enjoy the smells, the sounds, the texture.
Garden! If it’s in season, pluck food straight from the earth to enjoy shortly after a good rinse. Pick it from trees or bushes and nom on them there!
Air
Find some height! Hike or drive up a mountain, climb some stairs or take the elevator to a tall spot. A cliffside, a balcony, the place where the rock juts out from the trail. Sit and feel the air, the sensation of height. Yell, yodel, scream, and/or throw your arms out to celebrate these heights.
Jump on a trampoline and/or swing! In a park, on a porch, wherever you can find one.
Whip up an air-inspired meal or dessert. Check out loads of ideas in our Sustainable Body: Air Food Ideas! Pinterest board.
Fire
Light a candle(s) and do something you love beside it. How does the smell of the wax change as the candle burns? How does the color of the flame dance with the passing of air? (This can be really nice to combine with a hot bath, noticing the way the candle light illuminates steam/water particles in the space around it.)
Read, sip a drink, meditate, etc., by a fire. If you don’t have a fireplace, find a hotel lobby with one. Build a bonfire by a beach or go camping in the woods. Enjoy the colors, the temperature, the energy and the music of the fire.
Grill your meal over flames. How does this provide a unique heat? Taste? Texture?
Light sparklers and dance in your backyard or anywhere else that you won’t get arrested.
Be creative!
Go Deeper: Within the information about the element your diet type is associated with, do one thing (or create a new habit) based on any of the ideas mentioned. (You might find you naturally do some of the ideas listed!)
Of course, you can come back to any or all of these suggestions throughout the course (and your life!) But at least for this week, choose one or create something that celebrates your body as a natural thing that connects to the elements. You may find that you enjoy it so much, you reserve time regularly to do this and celebrate the elemental nature of your Sustainable Body!
Share your celebration with us! Mention it during a weekly call or in the Facebook group–you may inspire another to celebrate in a way that you have.
